Johnny Logan: Shawnee Spy
1983

A young adult historical novel based on an incident that began in 1782 when General Benjamin Logan led his Kentucky troops northward across the Ohio River in an invasion of the Shawnee territory in Ohio. In the course of the expedition, a young Shawnee boy named Spemica Lawba is captured and carried back to Kentucky as a prisoner by the whites. General Logan takes a shine to the intelligent Shawnee boy and adopts him into his own family, giving him the name of Johnny Logan. They become very close and when, at last, peace is restored and there is a prisoner exchange, Spemica Lawba -- Johnny Logan -- returns to his Shawnee family. But when the War of 1812 breaks out and most of the Indians side with the British against the Americans, Johnny Logan elects to side with the Americans and become a spy for them, sacrificing everything to prove his fidelity to the American cause. Published in hardcover only. Originally published in 1982 by Little, Brown & Co., Boston, Mass. Having gone out of print after many years, the book has recently been reprinted in a softcover books-on-demand format by iUniverse.com, Lincoln, NE, and may be ordered by calling their toll-free number, 1-877-823-9235.
